With the current airport mess and so many cancelled and delayed flights, with other flights being completely full, IMO you should be more conservative unless your cruise is just a cheap several hour excursion that you wouldn't mind missing totally. This is standard advice for normal times. Far too much can go wrong if you plan to take a taxi from the airport directly to your ship. You should plan to stay overnight (at least) in Quebec City before your cruise. In hindsight I probably wouldn't have booked that itinerary again but just goes to prove that if you have the right tools and the conditions are in your favour you can connect very quick. Managed to get to the gate huffing and puffing before it closed and was last one on the plane. Spent another 20 minutes transferring terminals and clearing pre-check security. Ran off the plane and made it through customs in 5 minutes. Fortunately plane arrived on time in ORD and the FA managed to get me off the plane first. YKF didn't have pre-clearance meaning I had to do the customs and security dance at ORD (flying AA). 2 years ago I flew YKF to SFO (connecting in ORD) with a tight 40 minute connection. Entering the US without pre-clearance is annoying in that you have to clear customs/immigration on the US side and go through security once again.Īlthough, if you have GloabalEntry (and consequently PreCheck) it can be very quick indeed. That being said YQB doesn't have USA pre-clearance (a deal has been signed between Canada/US but still waiting implementation). Many Canadian airports have pre-clearance (i.e. Namely, the first Canadian city you enter is where you'll clear immigration and (except for YYZ) recheck your bag. Canada has the same immigration/customs principles as the US.
